!Get Your Academic Credits in High School
Registration for 2025 is Open
The "Archimedes" program aims to provide an academic education in chemistry to school pupils who are interested in scientific subjects. Every year, approximately 50 outstanding pupils join the project. During the project, the pupils take courses in the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry and earn academic credit points, which can be used by them later if they decide to continue their studies at the Technion, or at any other university in Israel. The project can last up to three years (if there are enough participants in the 2nd and 3rd study years), until the pupils have finished their high-school studies
Archimedes
The essence of the project
The Goals of the Archimedes Program
to expose
scientifically talented pupils to academic level chemistry. The project focuses on pupils with a natural propensity for excellence in math and sciences
To establish
a community of high-achieving chemistry graduates who will advance the chemical industry and academic research in Israel
To change
Significantly the public image of chemistry as a profession and the public image of the chemical industry, and to highlight the fact that chemistry comprises a large variety of modern technologies that are important to Israeli industry
To create
Awareness among pupils, parents and teachers of how important and central chemistry is for the Israeli high-tech industry
Archimedes is an entry ticket for its graduates to their career and their next position in life
Prof. Zeev Gross, the leader of the program
When Prof. Zeev Gross talks about the youth programs, a spark of happiness appears in his eyes. Zeev has been leading the youth programs for many years, out of a sense of commitment and a genuine will to raise the next generation of chemical scientists
Prof. Gross completed his doctorate in physical organic chemistry in 1987 at Bar-Ilan University. After two years of postdoctoral work at Princeton University in the field of porphyrin chemistry under Professor John T. Groves, he joined the academic staff as a professor of chemistry in the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry at the Technion
Over the years, Prof. Gross published over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications by colleagues and holds many patents and was awarded the prestigious career award of Hans Fischer for the year of 2018 in porphyrin chemistry, and among other things the society prize. The Israeli Institute of Chemistry for the outstanding scientist and the "Henry Taub" Award for excellence in research
